Enrichment Day

Today was enrichment day in St. Joseph's Institution. This took the usual boring lessons out and instead, we learned about other exciting topics and subjects. I am in Secondary one, so we learned how to make a PET rocket. PET stands for the name of the plastic used to make the rocket which is Polyethylene terephthalate.

After the morning assembly, we proceeded to the hall where we would make our PET rockets. We could already feel the excitement in the air. When we went into the hall, we could see a lot of equipment on the floor and we wondered what they were going to be used for. Our questions were answered when the instructor told us how to build the rocket using the apparatus. With the aid of a powerpoint presentation, the instructor showed us step-by-step how to construct the rocket.

During the construction process, many of us were confused and had to ask many questions, but our instructor patiently answered them and after an hour of hard work and determination we finished our rocket. Then it was break time...

After the break, it was time to launch our rocket. We proceeded out to the school field,where the Sun shone brightly, and in the sweltering heat we launched our rockets. To launch our rocket, we had to fill it with water and pump air inside it. Then we pull the hose and it launches brilliantly into the air. After about two launches, we went back to the hall where we had out de-briefing.

During the de-brief, we learnt why our rocket launches into the air and how it launches. We also learnt some interesting information about the aviation industry. Lastly, the instructor told us that we could keep our rockets, we were happy about that because we could show our parents what we did at school today!!!! Well, this concluded our enrichment day at SJI. Look forward for the next one!
